How Sincerely Began
|
I’ve had a deep appreciation for candles since I was a kid. There is something special about the soothing and relaxing feelings that you get when you burn them. Each time I burn a candle I'm reminded of the internal flame of peace that is always accessible by reverence. I spent many school-aged years lighting the candles at church every Sunday. In my adult years, I use candles for a wide variety of moments, practices, and celebrations.
My curiosity and some hand-me-down equipment led me to experimenting with making them in 2001. I used the internet as my main source of instruction and supplies. I was very intrigued by the many different types of candles I learned to make. My mother’s kitchen became my little laboratory and the ancient art of candle making became my hobby. We would burn my candles at home and share them with the family. The family would help me create a better candle with encouraging words and constructive criticism. My sister would tell me that they are good enough to sell and I should give that a try. She shared them with some ladies at work and had a couple people using my candles in no time. I followed her example and did the same thing at my own job. It worked. Other people really enjoyed my candles too. This was the beginning of my candle business. With the help of my supportive mother, Diana Patchen, and the intention on having retail space to sell candles, my first business adventure began. In 2010, I opened a local arts and crafts shop called Sincerely Eclectic Gallery in downtown Asheboro including more than eighty Triad-area artists. The shop had lots of space to fill and the town and surrounding area is full of enthusiastic artists, so it was grand and beautiful. In the middle of that, I kept having this nudge that I wanted to finish my college degree. I needed help with the shop to do this, but as a new business, we were not ready to support an employee. In need of a change, I moved the candle workshop back home and continued my business journey with art and craft shows, wholesale sales and consignment sales. I also began to pursue my idea of holding candle making classes. While exploring this way to market my candle business, I received reinforcing support from my community. I love to share creative experiences with others; and I am skilled enough to teach. Put these things together and we have a memorable candle making experience! The last months of 2012, provided Sincerely Candle Company with brick and mortar again and a new front door. I stumbled upon 111 North Street one morning in November. It is a small, quaint space, but just enough for me and my candles. I was powered with all the faith in the world and just enough money to get me in the door. I filled and decorated the new candle shop. We had a successful run here. It was lovely! 2015 brought me my second boy! Most candle business activity was put on hold to do my most important work of being a mom :-) Through he next few years my boys and I did a lot of fun things, but all the while I kept receiving the nudge from people around me to bring Sincerely Candles back. I truly missed fueling my creative fire and all the fun we had with candle business experiences. I came to realize that the products developed were tried and true! I decided to take things a bit more seriously and try to create something to hand to my children one day. Welcome back, Sincerely Candles & Company, LLC 2019!!! Releasing candles to all possible markets. The new boutique is located at 1037 Hammer Avenue in Asheboro, NC. I am announcing new stockists and festivals on the website blog as deals are made! I am developing a few new products that I think you will be pleased with :) Sincerely Candles & Co. plans to go from local to regional in three years. We want to expand upon our product line and maintain quality to keep our customers coming back. We want to attract employees that share in our vision and passion. We also want to give back to the community by offering events for hands-on activities and for networking to encourage connection."
